Michael Phelps Loses To Ryan Lochte In 200-Meter Freestyle At World Championships

Ryan Lochte beat Michael Phelps at the final of the 200-meter freestyle to win one of the most highly anticipated racing world championship on Tuesday, reminding everyone that he is a threat to replace fellow American as a swimmer in the world - Shanghai.
Lochte touched in 1 minute, 44.44 seconds, Phelps taking the silver medal in 1:44.79, while defending champion Paul Biedermann of Germany - who delivered a stinging defeat Phelps in this event in the last world championships in Rome two years ago - settled for the bronze in 1: 44.88.
"I can not complain," said Phelps. I'm bummed that I did not win, but you know at the same time, with what we have done over the six months to eight years, and I am more of a second faster than I was last year. ... So I'm headed in the right direction. "
Lochte also won Phelps in the 200 individual and 200 meters at the U.S. championships last year, then won six gold medals for Phelps, five in the Pan Pacific Championships in 2010 - which prompted Phelps coach Bob Bowman have to admit that Lochte is the best swimmer in the past year .
Phelps led the rose in the quotation 50 and 100 before Lochte, who was swimming in the lane next to the front.
"I knew Michael wanted to go out just to clean water, so I knew I had to be in striking distance of work and just what I'm good - turn on all those underwaters" Lochte said. "It's a great confidence boost. We hope this win will help me carry on through my other races this week."
