Loadshedding continues despite decrease in shortfall
Updated at: 1226 PST, Saturday, July 23, 2011 LAHORE: Electricity shortfall in the country has decreased from 5,581 MW to 4,703 MW, Geo News reported Saturday. According to PEPCO spokesperson, electricity generation is 13,974 MW while demand is 18,677 MW. Despite the decrease in shortfall, hours of loadshedding have not decreased. Over 10 hours of loadshedding is taking place in cities while in rural areas the duration is over 16 hours. In Karachi, KESC has announced that the hours of loadshedding will increase to 10-12 hours. Technical faults are still taking days to fix, and residents are asking the government to take notice of the situation. In other parts of Sindh, heat wave coupled with the long hours of loadsheddding is making life unbearable for people. In Multan and other areas of southern Punjab unannounced loadshedding continued. In cities, up to 16 hours of loadshedding is taking place while in rural areas the duration is 18 hours. In Khyber Pakhthunkhwa there has been no decrease in the hours of loadshedding. | ||
